George Hunzinger was a furniture maker during the later half of the 19th century. He emigrated to the United States in 1855 and began manufacturing furniture in New York City. Like his contemporary furniture makers of the Victorian Age, Hunzinger's pieces are very decorative. What is unique about his furniture is the innovative and distinctive designs he patented. This site contains information and photo's of Hunzinger's work.

FYI ~ This chair was relisted on eBay and purchased for $199 just last week.
I have an upholstery shop where a gentleman brought this chair to me. It is in excellent condition except the fabric is rotten. Looks like it has been reupolstered over top of the old fabric. The fabric is sorta rust color with a floral design. Is this the original?
Hard to say... we got one and it had 3 different upholstery fabrics layered above the horse hair padding. I would guess that the bottom most one was original. It is possible that the rust color fabric is original...what type of padding is below the fabric? How often do chairs typically get recovered? Every 50 years? I wish I could help more. If you get a chance, could you send me a picture of the chair once you have restored it? Thanks!
