This brass patent tag for a Hunzinger piece is for a patent awarded exactly 114 Years ago today.
It measures 2-3/8" long x just over 3/4" high and reads

Lazy Blogger v. George Hunzinger

Where do I get all these Hunzinger pics? Well, when I first started this blog, I looked up maybe about 10 on my own. But since then, Christa finds all the ones off eBay for me and other readers send me links and pics as well. Quite frankly, I haven't had to search for a picture to post in like 6 months. Between this torrent of Hunzingers being sold on eBay and several readers (Tony & John W) sending me perhaps 40 chair pics they have gathered, I am backlogged. For a lazy blogger, being backlogged is the best thing in the world! Thanks to everyone who sends pics my way!

Oh, and for anyone reading, please send pics of your own Hunzinger pieces. I would love to post them!

Finally, Here is another awesome piece from the Met. This one is featured in Harwood's book.

Hunzinger Folding Chair

I would love to be able to break out a set of these folding chairs when company comes over... however, I will have to be content to just look at it on my blog. :( Check out the woodwork...

Corner Chair

Another Victorian era chair being billed as Hunzinger. This piece did not sell at its listed price of $325. But it is a fine chair and I'm sure it will go back up for auction sometime. Check it out:

The Mother of All Hunzinger Chairs...

This piece being sold on eBay is one of the finest pieces of furniture known to man. (IMHO) It is simply marvelous. Although it needs to be dusted and a few hundred bucks worth of new upholstery, it is one step away from being magnificent. A pristine version of this Hunzinger chair was shown in Harwood's book. Check them both out:

Note: I'll post the ending bid tommorow. Bidding ends in 40 minutes.
UPDATE: Sold for $4806. Worth it? I think so.

Hunzinger Plant Stand?

This interesting plant stand is being billed as a Hunzinger. Regardless of the manufacturer, it is very cool and I'm sure there are very few of these around. The seller is posting this one on eBay with a starting bid of $1700 and a Buy it now price of $2200. So far there are no bids on it. Although it may be overpriced, I suspect it may have to do with the pictures. For whatever reason, the seller chose to take the very blurry pictures next to what appears to be a trash pile and a ruined couch.

Hunzingerish

Yet again, people will list anything with a twisted part as a Hunzinger. Although this chair is very Hunzingerish, the manufacture's mark is definitly not.

Hunzinger? Not so much.

This is another rocker on eBay labled Hunzinger. The person listing the item did not cite a patent number or stamp. The design does not corrolate with any known pattented designs. Although it looks as if it could be a piece from that era, I suspect that George had nothing to do with it.

Standard Rocker

This standard rocker is currently listed on eBay starting at $9.99. Judging from the condition, I would guess it will go for $600 - I'll update if I see the final price. It is ebonized and gilded. It still has the original steel caning and is patent stamped. The post indicates that there is slight damage to the frame and one of the steel bands is broken.

UPDATE:
Christa said this chair sold for $127.75. It appears my future as a furniture appraiser is limited. I think I will keep my day job!

Overpriced Hunzinger Chair

This one is listed on eBay starting at $450 with a buy it now price of $2500. Although the chair still has the original wire webbing and is stamped, it is way over priced for the condition it is in. The wire caning is broken and the finish is very worn. I'll try to update with final price - my bet: unsold or reserve not met. This item is probably worth about $150-250.

UPDATE:
Christa said this one did not sell.

Hunzinger Chair

This is the final chair of the set of pics from a personal collection. The pictures speak for themselves...

Bamboo Hunzinger with Caning

This bamboo style chair is in fantastic condition. However it has had it's original steel banded chair bottom replaced with caning. Unfortunately, the fabric that Hunzinger used to wrap the steel bands doesn't last a hundred years of use (cut the guy some slack). This one is stamped with two patent dates.

Bamboo Style Hunzinger Chair

This bamboo style Hunzinger still has the original seat caning. This pattented material is a steel strip wrapped in fabric to look like cane, but to be more durable. The picture showing the under side of the chair reveals the method by which the single strip of steel caning was attached to the frame. There are two patent stamps on the chair - one for the faux caning, the other for the chair design.

A personal collection

I had a reader send me pictures of his three Hunzinger chairs this weekend. As you can see, they are in fantastic condition. I'll be putting up a separate post for each one this week. Look forward to some beautiful woodwork!

(BTW, if anyone else reading has pictures of Hunzinger furniture, please send them!)

Excellent Rocker

I never cease to be amazed when I see yet another style Hunzinger rocker. I have no idea how many models he had, but as you can see, here is another unique one. It appears to be a slightly older model as it has a wood stamp as oposed to the paper stamp. Notice the carved latice on the top. Very cool.

Platform Rocker

Another fine Hunzinger platform rocker. This one is different in that it has slowly twisting spindles. It also has small spires at the top of the back of the seat. I have shown the side-stamp, castor, and spring mechanism.
